Title:ProNET Cabling Change
To conform with recommendations provided by Proteon, Novell is now
shipping IBM TYPE 6 cabling for ProNET systems. Previously Novell
supplied Belden 9804 cables.
Cable specifications:
TYPE IMPEDANCE
---- ---------
IBM TYPE 6 150 ohm
Belden 9804 100 ohm
For existing systems that have Belden 9804 cabling and are being
expanded, we recommend that only IBM TYPE 6 cabling be installed
and any Belden 9804 cables be replaced with IBM TYPE 6 cables.
It has been found that ProNET systems with one or two wire centers
using short lengths of cabling (approximately 3 meters or less) can
use both types of cabling on the same system; however, to eliminate
potential problems using cables with different impedances, we
recommend that a ProNET system regardless of cable length use only
cables of the same impedance.
For existing systems that have Belden 9804 cabling and are not being
expanded, no change is needed.
